A VOICE FOR DIPLOMACY AND PEACE IN IRAN

What is happening in Iran is a flagrant violation of international law.

The NDP strongly condemns the U.S. and Israeli bombings of Iran. This is a dangerous escalation that risks dragging the entire region into a major conflict. The Ayatollahs’ oppressive and bloody regime is reprehensible, but the management of its nuclear program must be handled through the United Nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Moreover, its Director General, Mr. Grossi, recently indicated that he was working with the Iranian government to resume inspections and reiterated that there could be no solutions other than diplomatic ones.

Thousands of civilians have died so far, and we must under no circumstances normalize the live images of U.S. and Israeli bombings in the Middle East. What we saw in Gaza is happening all over again, and Prime Minister Carney persists with his unprincipled, incoherent, and contradictory stance.

That is why we in the NDP have called for an emergency debate in Parliament. Prime Minister Carney was nowhere to be found, but several sources indicate that members of the Liberal caucus are uncomfortable with their leader’s remarks. He cannot hide forever. He will have to respond to our three demands:

  1. The government must condemn this illegal aggression, and the prime minister must make it clear that this is an illegal war.

  2. The government must confirm that we will never participate in ground operations or bombing raids as part of this illegal war.

  3. The government must commit to working with other middle powers around the world to secure a ceasefire as soon as possible.

Canada must be a voice for diplomacy, peace, and international law. We won’t give up. Help us put pressure on the Liberal government:
