Solidarity with the Cuban people. Canada must do more to help them.

The humanitarian situation in Cuba is very concerning.

The United States' intentions toward Cuba are clearer than ever: Trump wants to stifle an entire nation in order to subjugate it.

Canada and Quebec have had special and privileged relations with Cuba for years. Aside from sending $8 million in food aid to Cuba recently, as the crisis worsens, Prime Minister Mark Carney and the Liberal Party have been conspicuously silent. We haven't heard them speak out about this humanitarian crisis, we haven't heard them criticize the Trump administration, nor have they expressed any support or solidarity with the Cuban people. Alexandre, as the NDP's foreign affairs critic, is calling on the Liberal government to speak out and take action. It's time to send real support, fuel, genuine humanitarian aid, to the Cuban people.

‘‘For three months, an oil blockade against the island has caused a humanitarian crisis in the country. Trump is deliberately inflicting suffering on a civilian population, which is contrary to international law and particularly cruel.’’
- ALexandre Boulerice

Cubans are facing famine, medicine shortages, and power outages. We all remember, in Davos last month, when Carney declared that Canada had "the capacity to build a new order that incorporates our values, such as respect for human rights, sustainable development, solidarity, sovereignty, and the territorial integrity of different states."

Mr. Carney, it's time for actions to match words.

Help us put pressure on the current Liberal government:
