Employment Insurance (EI)
The EI fund is maintained solely through the contributions of workers as well as employers. This is a result of a 1990 decision by the Conservative government to withdraw federal funding to the EI fund.
How to make an EI claim?
EI claims must be completed online. If you do not have access to a computer you can submit your application via a computer available at the offices of Service Canada. For more information, please visit the Service Canada website.
The nearest Service Canada offices are located in:
Villeray, Centre-ville, Mercier, Saint-Léonard

As the laws on Employment Insurance can be complex, we strongly suggest you consult with an unemployment advocacy group prior to submitting a claim.
If you live in Montreal, you can contact the Unemployment Action-Movement of Montreal (MAC).
The MAC is a community group which provides education and advocacy for the unemployed. The constituency office works with them on a regular basis.
